Treating Life Threatening Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer generally caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos are silicate minerals with fibrous crystals, which occur naturally. Malignant cells of human body are found in the sac lining of the abdomen or chest in this condition. When people breathe or inhale these asbestos fibers of silicate minerals, they pass through the crannies of the pleura and alcoves causing irritation and physical damage to the mesothelial cells, which in turn may lead to Mesothelioma, a form of cancer.

Symptoms of this dangerous disease occur only after 30 to 50 years of asbestos exposure. Some of these symptoms include pain in the chest, hair loss, fever, shortness of breathe, weight loss and anemia. Doctors diagnose this disease through many ways like RBC count, X – ray, Physical examination etc. lets now discuss about the treatment of Mesothelioma. Few treatments foe Mesothelioma includes radiation therapy, surgery and chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy treatment uses a drug called Pemetrexed, which is approved by the United States federal Food and Drug Administration. Health care professionals advise to consume this drug along with Folic acid and Cisplatin, which helps in reducing the side effects of Pemetrexed.

Radiation therapy is appropriate for the patients who can tolerate the process of treatment called Radical Surgery. However, radiation therapy is not the only treatment that helps cure this life threatening disease. Various types of chemotherapeutic treatments follow it.

Another option for this type of disease is Surgery. However, always remember that this type of treatment does not prove to be very useful. Sometimes this method of treating Mesothelioma disappoints the patient.

Immunotherapy leads to variable results. Sometimes, patients undergoing this type of treatment experiences little side effects.
